The software awards scam

Ages ago, I got about three e-mails for each downloadable file on my web site, awarding me Softpedia's 100% CLEAN Award. I wrote them an e-mail that they should stop after they kept sending more and more messages for the same files. I thought I'd blogged about it, but apparently haven't. I'm still not 100% sure whether they're a complete fraud or simply highly automated... maybe they download people's files and run a virus scanner over them, maybe they just grab every file they can. They're definitely in it mainly for the referrals and the ad revenue, though.

However, a couple sites that are certainly no good have been exposed by Andy Brice of Successful software in The Software awards scam. A worthwhile read.
